Mavalli Tiffin Rooms
Rooted in Culinary Excellence & Time-Honored Tradition
Mavalli Tiffin Rooms (MTR) is a culinary venture that traces its roots back to Bengaluru, where three brothers – Parameshwara Maiya, Ganappayya Maiya, and Yagnanarayana Maiya – embarked on a journey of culinary excellence. Hailing from a small village near Udupi in Karnataka, India, their culinary skills led them to employment as cooks in the homes of esteemed individuals, setting the stage for their future endeavors.
In time, their passion for cooking led to the establishment of the Brahmin Coffee Club, serving coffee and idlis on Lalbagh Fort Road in Bengaluru. Renowned for its delectable offerings, the restaurant soon underwent a transformation. Yagnanarayana Maiya, affectionately known as Yagnappa, brought forth a wave of change after studying European restaurant practices during a tour of Europe. Infusing MTR with new standards of hygiene, health, and sanitation, he laid the groundwork for the restaurant’s success.
Rechristened as Mavalli Tiffin Rooms or MTR, the restaurant moved to its current location on Lalbagh Road, where it has since flourished as a culinary landmark. Yagnanarayana Maiya’s vision continues to guide the third generation, represented by Harishchandra Maiya. Upholding the legacy of culinary brilliance and a commitment to tradition, MTR remains a beloved institution, offering patrons authentic South Indian delicacies and an unforgettable dining experience.
